Hi Everyone,

As some of you may remember, I was offered early retirement at the end of last May and accepted.  Since then, I have fallen over a jug of kitty litter and twisted my knee, fallen out of bed and bruised myself badly, and burned my forearm baking a healthy dinner!!!!

No wonder they say most accidents happen at home.  I am a lot more careful now.  My diabetes control is getting better and except for worries about money (there are no part-time jobs here that don't require a large amount of physical labor and no full-time jobs that will hire someone my age (63)), I am doing well!!!

Let's all hope I guess less accident-prone!

Gale, sorry to hear you are accident prone.  With your background have you looked into tele-working in your area?

Dear Don,

I have but most of the jobs seems to be involve endless bothering of people.  I just can't do it.  Telemarketers have irritated me enough.  Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I have enough money; it's just going to be a little difficult as time goes on.  But I am better off than many and my health insurance is good so actually, I feel blessed.

Gale, I wasn't referring to telemarketing.  Lord knows I dislike that as much as anyone.  What I was referring to was working from home via your computer.  I read on ABC News.com that the site About.com hires guides to create content based on expertise on a specific subject.  Traditional jobs are going by the way side these days.

Sorry Don, I didn't mean to misunderstand you.  Yes, that's certainly something to look into (and I will).  Just have to be careful - there are so many scams out there to lure in people "working from home."

You're right-traditional jobs are going.  Thanks for your suggestion.  That hadn't occurred to me.  I haven't been looking really hard because being off work has been so pleasant!

Best to you,

Thanks Don!  I will definitely look into it.  Don't worry about not remembering about breakfast - sometimes I think my whole life is a senior moment!

Hello, I have been retired for 25 years, I am 81 years old. I moved to Florida right after I retired and started playing Tennis, but my afternoons were free so I did some volunteering.  I was so good at what I was doing that it turned into a part time job.  I was a docent at a Museum. i loved the work, but about 2 years ago age caught up with me and I retired for tha second time.

I am happy reading and playing with my computer,  I wish you a lot of luck and happiness.

Dear Bill,

Thanks so much for your encouragement.  I too like reading and playing with the computer.  I am currently looking into volunteer activities.

Hi Galemarie:

I go to the Y three days a week.  It feels like a part time job.  On the other days I make plans with friends and do errands, etc.  I have found ways to fill my time by taking up crocheting again and reading the piles of books I have on my shelf.  You will get things straightened out in time.

Galemarie:  Sorry your retirement got off to such an accident-prone start!  I have been retired for a number of years now and my days are busy.  Or, as busy as I want them to be, which is even better.  The best thing about retirement, I think, is when I wake up and the weather is lousy and I realize that I no longer have to go out and brave the wind, rain or snow to get to work.  I just stay inside. warm and dry,  with a cup of coffee and watch the cars going by in the bad weather, bringing those poor working folks to their jobs in nasty conditions.

Thanks Jen and Spirit,

I have no trouble being busy.  The last two mornings have been incredibly rainy and I have enjoyed sitting with my coffee watching the cars go by.

I had to go out today because it was my swim day.  When I came out of the Y it was drizzling so I went grocery shopping.  Of course, when I left the market it was pouring and then when I got home ( by then it was almost 4:00 pm) I had to get my grocery cart out of the car and bring the groceries in the house.  Now I just finished lunch and  feel all cozy and warm and really want a nap, but I can't now or I will be up all night.  One thing about exercising in the pool is that you don't realize how hard you are working because you don't sweat.  Hope it doens not rain tomorrow because I have to go to work in the library at my temple processing books so we can get them on the shelves.

Spirit is right though, when it snows and the weather is really bad, I just lay in bed and say "Thank You" to God that I don't have to drive that long drive to work and back in the bad weather.
