Hi guys, I'm a reporter for the Navajo Times in Chinle, Ariz. I've been trying to find figures on the number of blind folks (diabetes-related or not, although around here most blindness is diabetes-related) on the Navajo reservation, or, failing that, the percentage of blindness among Native Americans. I've tried the tribe's disabilities people and the National Federation for the Blind, and just Googling "blindness + Navajo" and nobody seems to have that data. It seems like it ought to exist somewhere! Any ideas?

Have you tried the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association?

Have you tried posing your question to a reference librarian, especially one at an academic institution or at a medical library?  I've found reference librarians to be great resources who will dig and dig until they find your answer.

T2, diagnosed 12/98.  Diet and exercise 2/03 - 11/08.  Now back on metformin 500 ER.
