I had actue pancreatitis, which turned out to be chronic and I am lucky that I had only the one acute attack. I take pangestyme and Hyomax. Hyomax is for pain, and pangestyme helps to replace the enzymes that digest fats. I asked my doctor at the time if one could become diabetic from having pancreatitis and he said it depended on how much damage was done to the pancreas. The GI doc assumed that just because I was fat that my triglycerides were always high, but my PCP set him straight Most of the time my Triglycerides are normal. That was in July of '89 and I was diagnosed with diabetes in November.

Don, on a quick look, I did not see any reports of a link. Lopid is gemfibrizol and is prescribed when triglycerides are high enough to cause inflammation of the pancreas. I would guess that if the inflammation is bad enough it could lead to failure of the beta cells, which in turn could cause diabetes. But keep in mind that the Lopid is used to treat this condition and should not cause it.

Question, prior to being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes I was taking Lopid Tablets for heart issues and high cholesterol. Have any of you heard of a link relating diabetes to use of this drug?
