I still have times when I eat things I should not or do now walk after eating and then the belly starts to pop out again!

For some reason which I don't understand, type 2 diabetes gives preferential treatment to fat cells in the organs rather than under the skin. In other words the insulin resistance seems to affect the subcutaneous (under the skin) cells more than the fat cells in the organs.

Overall I agree that weight gain comes from hunger and eating too much. If we understood this one, we both would be rich. However, I don't think diabetes directly causes it, with or without inflammation.

Re: Is Inflammation the cause of Type 2?

Anne
Your last paragraph is exactly what I have posted on this board before. Diabetes T2 made me get fat. I see my neices and nephews also gaining belly weight as they near their 40's even my skinny elder son at 34 is developing a pot belly even tho the rest of him is skinny! I need to get him let me test him after he eats! Doctors will tell u it is from eating more, but I saw the diabetes made me fat. Yes, a big hunger for carbs and sweets and being hungry an hour after eating all from high blood sugar!

Re: Is Inflammation the cause of Type 2?

I read the article too. In my case I feel it is very plausible as I was under a lot of stress from my job and death of my wife in the two years before diagnosis. Yes, I was overweight, fighting some depression and in general very lousy from lack of sleep. So in addition to sleep apnea, when I was diagnosed I was in the ER for heart problems (angina). So all three really got me at once. Just thankful for insulin as oral meds did not do anything to help. Once on insulin (Lantus and Novalog), the weight started to come off. Then the VA changed insulins (Novalin 70/30) on me and the weight went back up. So once again, I am back on Lantus and Novalog and the weight is again coming off. Don't ask why - I have no idea. Just that that combination for me seems to work. I feel less hungry and am enjoying life again. Now if I can only prevent the VA from changing types of insulin.

This is interesting. Basically it is really a good diet for diabetics, and one we have seen before. BUT it also answers the Doctors who insist that we have this because we are too fat! I have always tried to explain that being overweight came only AFTER I had the diabetes.

I get a smirk and smile as I am not believed. I was always so skinny as a child underweight most of my childhood, and young adult. I was never fat until I developed diabetes and then went on insulin.
