I just started metaformin XR this morning 1000 mgs. I have no stomach upset, but I am not hungry, I planned my meals out for the day, and it is lunch and I should be eating something, but not hungry. I just got groceries, so I have everything I would want or need.

When I first started taking Metformin it suppressed my appetite too.  That and the mild stomach upset combined to help me lose weight.  Thanks goodness the stomach problems resolved quickly.

You still need to maintain your meal plan, skipping meals make my BS levels soar later that day.  Dee

Metformin is an interesting drug, and the means by which it works is not totally understood. It seems to have three main actions; reduces the tendency of the liver to dump glucose into the blood, increases sensitivity of the cells to insulin, and slows the digestion of food. The last action which is the one that can cause the GI upset. It also can make you feel full longer. Long term studies show a modest weight loss with the use of metformin.
