• Re: Will Obama Change the US Health Care System?

I have nothing in particular to add to the debate, but I just wanted to say how great it is to see the sort of intelligent, thought-provoking thread that we all used to enjoy so much on the old boards - great stuff, guys!

  • Re: Great day desite the snow

Hi, Jen! Congratulations on your weight loss - to be losing weight and getting your BGs down like that at this time of the year really is quite something. As for marking posts read, if you click on Message Boards, then scroll down to the section headed Browse Discussions, you can click on the boards, rather than on individual threads. Click on a board

  • Re: sugar-free but still carb

I would echo Jen's warning about the effect that products containing sugar alcohols can have on your GI system. My mother once ate an entire bag of chewy sweets sweetened with them and within a few hours her midriff resembled a space hopper. Needless to say, she only ever did it the once and the experience was memorable, but for all the wrong reasons

  • Re: May be in the wrong area??

I would echo Ron's recommendation of 'The New Glucose Revolution'. I have both that and 'The Glucose Revolution for People With Diabetes' and found them both useful. It is possible that the US editions are different, but the UK edition of TNGR is the main book, while TGRFPWD is a very small, pocket-size volume which just fine-tunes

  • Re: Which Result to Use

I think that the accuracy of readings is more of a problem for people who rely on their meter readings to calculate their insulin than for those who do not. If I suspect that a reading is out, I will always do a second check, generally using another finger so that I don't risk the discomfort that comes from inadvertently piercing the same spot twice

  • Re: So here is a depressing question

Hi, Josh! There is little I can add to Spirit's wonderful replies to you, but I did just want to say that it sounds as if you have got a real handle on things now, and that's what really matters. If your ophthalmologist and endo are happy with how you are doing, the progress that you are making and your likely road ahead, that's great. The

Thanks for the laugh, Don! Along similar lines, I still remember your Friday Funny about the religious bras with great affection!

  • Re: Worry

Hi, Galemarie! I am really sorry to hear that you are so worried about your job and what might happen if it were to go. Knowing very little about the way the system works in the US, I can't offer any useful advice, but I have had various periods out of work over the years and only one of them didn't involve a financial struggle, and that was

  • Links between Metformin and B12 deficiency

Well, here is a new thread - and guess what? It's not related to the teething problems of the new boards! When I was in the UK at Christmas, my GP asked me to have my vitamin B12 level checked. I had never had it checked before and the endocrinologists I have seen in various countries in recent years had never mentioned it, but since I was in England

  • Re: No posting all weekend?

Yes, I agree with everyone else's comments. I didn't make it to Florida for the weekend - I worked 16 hours on Saturday and 18 hours on Sunday, which left little room for anything else - although I did go to Syria the previous weekend to spend my birthday in Damascus. It was quite an experience, some things good and others not so, but I am glad
