  • Re: Surgery and Pumping

Hi: Before your surgery you should ask the surgeon wheter your pump has to be taken off during surgery. If it is removed an insulin plan has to be created either by your pcp or an endocrinologist during surgery as well as in the recovery room. If the pump is left on basal adjustments may have to be made by your pcp or endocrinologist during surgery

One way to see why you are having these swings is to: keep records of your food, insulin and glucose for 4 to 5 days. Check glucose 3 hours after eating to determine if your insulin to carbohydrrates ratio is correct. This will help even when you use a cgm

The guardian is not an insuln pump- it a continous gloucose monitor.. which has three parts, a sensor which is inserted into your skin with an inserted. • Re: Test strips and lower readings

Call the One Touch 800 number that is in the back of your monitor and ask them to send control solutions so that you can see if readings are accurate. You could also bring you meter to your next doctor's appointment and ask them to do a test. use your meter a few minutes later and compare results.

If you are still a Joslin patient and have been seen within this year. you can call them for advise. If not, I would check with the nurse educator or MD who has been managing your pump. Joyce

Humulin N is still being made. Lente has been off the market for many years. Humalog is used to correct elevated glucose or to eat a meal. Ask her doctor which insulin would be best for her. Joyce
