Hi (Meadow),Helen, Great to hear from you! I don't get here much anymore either, just checking in today to see who is still here also. You must be so proud of Tommy, pre med, wow! Michael is an engineer and travels a lot, while Melissa is busy at volunteer jobs and also dog sits for her brother, here of course. She has gotten involved in animal

The Glucowatch was a piece of junk and I believe that it is no longer available since the testing and subsequent article in the ADA magazine showed that it didn't predict highs or lows very well. You should be looking at Continuous Glucose Monitors instead. Right now the only two available are the Dexcom and the Medtronic systems. They are called

OMG Jen, that is AMAZING!!! I hope that you are as proud of yourself as we all are of you. What an accomplishment and inspiration you are. My brother Bill was just diagnosed with type 2, less than 2 weeks after he lost his wife to Alzheimer's. He has already lost 10 pounds by just walking and cutting back. He has 25 more to go, and then they will

You don't say whether you use a pump or injections, but the answer is the same either way. You need to lower your insulin. Your ratio may be off for your dinner meal, or your basal insulin may need to be lower. You should not have to eat to your insulin. The insulin needs to be adjusted so that you can be stable overnight without needing a snack

The Honey Clusters one is really good. I did find out that the soy milk is what helps to keep the spiking of bg away for her though when Melissa spent the weekend at her brother's house last weekend. I didn't think that she needed to take her soy milk, and I was wrong. She spiked both days. Skim milk is high glycemic because there is no fat

Nance, that sounds really tasty! Melissa does sprinkle her cereal with Benifiber and I think that also helps. She needs the fiber anyway and that is a good time to use it. She is having a banana today with it and as long as they are not too ripe, she can get away with a small whole one. I buy the smallest ones that I can find and she knows not to eat

Melissa uses soy milk on her cereal and it helps her not to spike. She loves cereal and with the CGM we know which ones to avoid. For the original poster, try bolusing well before eating the cereal and you should be fine. She often has cereal for a snack at night too. Better than most things and again doesn't spike her bg's.

Jen, People that I know have done all that they can to get some answers and Abbott simply says that they don't know what the problem is. That is unacceptable to me. This is the second lengthy backorder problem within one years time. This is being reported to the FDA, and anyone else that will listen. I don't think that anyone high up at Abbott

We have had yet another broken alignment pin on the transmitter and have been waiting several weeks with no word on when we may see one. My son is without a receiver and that has been over two months now. Two of my friends have been without a working receiver for over 8 weeks now. I am going to have my daughter do a Dexcom trial in about two weeks and

Almost all type 1s use this method to help a high blood sugar come down. It is really helpful for flushing ketones. We have been doing this for years!
